NANO Modules VCV Random

VCV Random from NANO Modules is a faithful hardware recreation of the useful random modulator from VCV Rack's software library. Here NANO delivers the same straightforward sample and hold based random source with physical, flickable faders, perfect for quickly adding variation and movement to synth parameters, or creating organic and lively self-playing Krell patches. NANO has also added a convenient switch to normalize the linear output to each of the four CV inputs, turning VCV Random into an even more unpredictable self-modulated beast. With four types of random CV outputs generated and all the controls you could need, VCV Random will have you bleeping and blooping in no time.

At the core of VCV Random is an internal clock set by the RATE control. The probability that a new random value will be generated at one of these pulses is set by the PROB slider, which blinks to indicate when a new value is generated. The RND control sets an amount between the new and old value to generate the random output, giving you control from no randomness to complete chaos. Finally, the SHAPE slider sets the shape for each output. CV inputs for all these controls are present and include handy offset attenuators. TRIG and IN inputs let you clock or sample from outside sources, making it easy to gel this chaotic modulator with other musical parameters of your patch. If you're looking to add some spontaneity to your patches, VCV Random is a time-tested tool for chaotic modulation, now available in the physical realm.

VCV Random Features

  • Hardware version of VCV Rack's original random CV source
  • Four types of random output: stepped, linear, exponential, and smooth
  • RATE controls internal clock tempo

  • TRIG in for clocking the module from an external clock
  • IN input for connecting external signals to be sampled by the sample and hold circuit
  • TRIG output sends triggers with each new value
  • Offset switch adjusts between unipolar (0V-10V) and bipolar (+/-5V)
  • Switch on back of module normalizes linear output to each of the four CV inputs
  • Eurorack module
  • Width: 10hp
