Erica Synths Black LPG

The Black series LPG from Erica Synths is a new iteration of the concept of a low pass gate, perfect for percussive hits with a natural-sounding decay. A low pass gate filters sound at lower volumes and decreases the filtering as they get louder, making the louder sounds brighter and quieter sounds darker. This is much the way that sounds behave in the natural world.

Erica Synths took a different approach than the classic Buchla LPG, using a second-order low pass VCF instead of a first-order. Included in the design is a resonance control, which adds emphasis to the filter at the cutoff point. A drive circuit connected to the resonance adds a bit of extra character to your sounds. LPGs tend to use vactrols, which impart a natural slewing effect to incoming signals. Erica also included a decay-only envelope to control the dynamics of the sound with more precision. This envelope features a dedicated output to route elsewhere in your system.

The Black LPG functions as just a VCA, just a VCF, or a combination of the two with CV control over the mode. Erica Synths' take on a low pass gate adds new features to this classic design, expanding control and expression possibilities.
