Ciat-Lonbarde Din Datin Dudero Fyral
The Fyral from Ciat Lonbarde's Din Datin Dudero brand is an oval drone synthesizer featuring two large wooden knobs, a singular button, and many touch-patchable banana jacks for creating networks of interconnected modulations. Like many of the instruments created by Peter Blasser, Fyral combines multiple analog circuits arranged in connected pathways which exhibit unique behavior that extends beyond their individual capabilities. This interconnected combination of analog circuits provides Fyral its base state, which may be further modulated and mangled through touch and plug interactions with its patchable nodes. Fyral is silent when not played, providing an expressive drone and noise instrument that relies on your physical interactions to sound.
Turning either of the two knobs initiates a sample and hold process to affect both pitch and envelope parameters on each side, introducing new voltage values which disperse through the connected processes. When unpatched, the base state of Fyral provides stepped note movement in either direction which is surprisingly learnable. The central button activates and energizes the circuit, with patch points that allow this process to be automated and avoid Fyral's power circuit shutting off after a few seconds of not playing.
Of course, patched connections via banana cables or physical touch increase the complexity of Fyral's sounding mechanism, exciting unstable systems of feedback control. Each patchpoint may be used as either input or output, with slower modulations towards the outside of the instrument, and faster modulations toward the center. Rather than enabling strict-intentioned and prerepresented linear patching, Fyral invites nascent gestures of physical exploration, taking inspiration from the movements of an infant exploring his father's stereo. Equally perfect among a fleet of other Ciat Lonbarde instruments or as your dedicated duo partner, Fyral offers unique interactions with analog circuitry, promoting push and pull cycles of soaring drones and squelchy utterances.
