Ciat-Lonbarde Din Datin Dudero Srine
The Srine from Ciat Lonbarde's Din Datin Dudero brand is an oval synthesizer that takes inspiration from pre-lingual gestures with knobs and buttons, deriving complex audio generation from intuitive and exploratory gestures. Described as a Baroque Analog Computer, the circuit within Srine's custom wooden enclosure combines multiple analog processes in interwoven connections, generating self-organizing and chaotic behaviors that extend beyond each function's individual capacity. Srine's two large wooden knobs excite the process of sound generation, while a singular button temporarily energizes the circuit. In its unpatched base state, Srine produces drones which change in pitch and envelope shape as you turn the knobs. Connecting its touch-patchable banana jacks with cables or other conductive material invites new modulations into Srine's audible utterances, instigating unique and varied changes into its pseudo-living behavior.
Turning Srine's knobs creates audible activity, with non-playing interactions resulting in silence. The turns introduce a sample and hold process which distributes new voltage memories into Srine's shift registers, creating improvisational interactions which are surprisingly learnable. The button recessed into Srine's wooden case initiates the energizing of the circuit, which can be automated by connecting one of the outer patchpoints to those located at the button. After a few seconds of inactivity, the circuit powers itself off, awaiting further intervention. Connecting Srine's patch points adds further complexities to the sounding circuit, best explored through intuitive exploration rather than linear execution of strictly defined patching. Srine excels equally at enabling intuitive chaos both on its own and in a grouping of other Ciat Lonbarde instruments or other circuits, singing sonorous drones and shredded squelches in cycles of epistemic action and audible discovery.
