Zlob Modular Triple Cap Chaos
Based on the paper “Simple Autonomous Chaotic Circuits” by J.C. Sprott and Jessica R. Piper, the Triple Cap Chaos from Zlob Modular is a chaotic noise oscillator, audio mangler, and harmonic generator. Control the coarse behavior of the spectrum of chaos with the Emanate potentiometer, from more steady oscillations to dense chaotic behavior. With nothing patched into the CV input, the width/CV att control provides finer control over the chaotic behavior. Patching into the CV input disables the width control and makes the knob act as an attenuator. The input is hardly 1V/oct, but rather it interacts with the Emanate control to change the overall chaotic behavior.
Audio can be brought into the module, which also interacts with the chaotic behavior of the module based on both the chaotic frequency and the frequency of the input oscillator. This can add harmonics and results in pseudo-ring mod sounds. Two outputs grace the bottom of the module, Y, a squared and more aggressive output, and X, a sinusoidal-based output that is smoother. This chaotic oscillator is a great source of unpredictability and aleatoric behaviors that can interact with external sources to unlock additional behaviors.
