Waldorf Quantum
The Waldorf Quantum Shadow is a limited edition version of the Quantum: a 61-key, eight-voice hybrid analog/digital synthesizer that's great for applications from bass lines to film score sound scapes, and everything in between. Unlike anything else available, the Quantum provides access to granular synthesis, physical modeling, wavetable synthesis, and analog modeling synthesis in any combination.
The five-octave keyboard is a Fatar TP8 keyboard and features velocity and aftertouch. The combination of touch screen and front panel controls offer hands on control with the ability to dive deep into your sound. When a control is touched, the touch-screen automatically changes to that setting page for quick editing of everything from modulation routing to shaping of the filter cutoff and resonance. Each of the eight voices feature three digital stereo oscillators plus dual analog filter with digital former. The digital former includes different models from Waldorf's hardware and software synthesizers, including bit-crushing, comb filters, and digital distortion. The order and routing of the filters and digital former can be customized.
There are four digital sound engines present on the Quantum. Wavetable features many of the rich wavetables that Waldorf is known for, plus the ability to create custom wavetables using external audio or text to speech synthesis. This allows you to type in words and play them back as wavetables. The waveform engine includes analog modeling-style waveforms like saw, square, or triangle. The particle engine can be used for audio sampling or granular synthesis. Finally the resonator uses an exciter and comb filters to achieve physical modeling. This can be used to create the sounds of real instruments like strings or bells, or entirely new digital resonant sounds.
The effects engines including EQ, drive, chorus, reverb, and delay, as well as compression knob right next to the master volume. This allows for compression of the whole mix. Automate your playing with the onboard 32-note sequencer or use the arpeggiator that features seven algorithms. The modulation matrix allows for up to 40 mod assignments. Modulation sources include six LFO and six looping envelopes, as well as the Komplex modulator. This is a function generator which can do one shot envelopes, random modulation, and LFOs with the ability to draw your own modulation curves and add randomness to them. Tons of sounds, complex modulation routing, and lots of hands-on control, the Quantum Shadow delivers all this, along with a limited-edition sleek black and grey finish.
