Tascam DR-40X

The Tascam DR-40X is a four-track recorder and USB audio interface that’s great for everything from in-studio musicians, podcasters, or field recordings. It can function as a standalone recorder or as a 2 x 2 USB audio interface. Built-in condenser microphones can be configured in X-Y for tight stereo recording or A-B recording for a wider spread. Neutrik XLR/TRS combo jacks feature mic preamps that include +48V phantom power and accept +4dBu line level signals. The interface is simple and easy to use with many functions accessible by single button press.

Dual recording mode captures a secondary safety track at a lower level, making sure volume spikes don’t ruin your recording. Overwrite mode is great for second takes, destructively editing recorded audio with a newly recorded track. Conversely, overdub mode records new audio while preserving the originally recorded audio, great for laying down multiple overdubs on a single track. The DR-40X fills many recording niches.
