The term "digital storage" is used because the module can save a recent history of samples for analysis, and using the buttons you can easily adjust the vertical and horizontal scaling and alignment to get a big or small realtime picture of what you're patching. At larger time divisions (over 50ms) the DSO automatically goes into rolling mode that gives you a better idea of how slow voltages change over time.
