Syntonie Cadrans
Cadrans from Syntonie gives you three identical channels of video signal multiplication, each with three modes that enable VCA functionality and crossfading, or two flavors of four-quadrant multiplication. Both versatile and useful in any system, Cadrans offers a great way to move smoothly between two video signals, create complex color inversions, introduce negative space, and more. In addition to two inputs and an output for each channel, Cadrans features manual control over multiplication and CV control over amplitude.
In VCA/XFADE mode, Cadrans is a simple VCA when only one of its inputs is connected. With only IN1 connected, the signal moves from maximum value to black at 0V, while IN2 will deliver a smooth transition from maximum to white, or +1V. Use both inputs, and Cadrans becomes a crossfader, smoothly moving between the two inputs.
The other modes of Cadrans are both four quadrant multipliers. The first, 4Q BI, is useful for bipolar signals, expecting bipolar signals at both input and output. When using a unipolar signal, the range below the midpoint will be black, though this can be useful for introducing space within a busy image. Conversely, 4 UNI mode works best with unipolar signals. In this mode, the midpoint is at grey level, with the inverted version of the signal within the visible 0V to 1V range.
With three channels of signal mangling fun within Cadrans, you can use the three processors together or independently in a larger patch. Process RGB signals independently with fades to black and white, crossfading, and inversion, bringing a ton of flexibility to even simple shapes. As a useful utility with plenty to offer in almost any patch, Cadrans from Syntonie is a perfect addition to any video system.
Cadrans Features
- 3-channel video VCA/crossfader and 4-quadrant multiplier
- Process RGB signals independently, or use channels together to create shapes from H and V signals

- VCA/XFADE mode works as VCA with only one input connected, or as crossfader with both inputs
- Input 2 only active in VCA/XFADE mode
- 4Q BI mode provides bipolar 4-quadrant multiplication, expects bipolar input and generates bipolar output
- 4 UNI mode offers unipolar 4-quadrant multiplication, with grey midpoint and unipolar output
- Eurorack module
- Width: 12hp
- Depth: 42mm
- Current draw: 170mA @ +12V, 0mA @ -12V, 0mA @ +5V
