Simon Reynolds Energy Flash
Energy Flash is a book by Simon Reynolds that was written as a tribute to the 1990s global rave culture based on the first-hand experience of the author. The book traces the birth of a symbiosis between two seemingly unrelated acronyms—MIDI and MDMA. It tells a story of how Detroit techno paved its way to the clubs of England, Germany, and the Netherlands, and how the addition of ecstasy into the mix spawned the evolution of new music scene. Besides focusing on the music history side of things, Reynolds also takes a look onto the related social history, as well as offering several interviews with the participants and influencers of the scene. Energy Flash also provides the author’s analysis of the key artists, tracks, venues, and groups, as well as descriptions of rave-compatible drugs, and the proper rave etiquette.
