The Tonebone PZ-Pre Acoustic DI Box Preamp, from Radial Engineering, features piezo acoustic input signal boosters that allow for the melding of active preamps and add-on instrument pickups, resulting in a more organic rendering.

The signal path starts with two instrument inputs, each of which can be toggled using the corresponding footswitch. Additionally, each input contains its own individual level controls. For those players who insist of using two pickups in one guitar, the Tonebone implements a Mix function that converts the channels from “either-or” to both.

In terms of tone shaping, the Tonebone boasts an inherently musical and relatively straightforward design with blistering bass and high controls, as well as a semi-parametric mid. This section is further enhanced by a notch filter with variable frequency sweep controls and a selection of normal or deep notch filtering. There’s also an internal polarity reverse and high-pass filter; with the former eliminating feedback and the latter for getting rid of any unnecessary resonance.

Perfect for both the studio and stage, the Tonebone boasts a combination power booster and effects loop bus, letting users add effects or boost the input signal with the mere click of a footswitch. For even more convenience, there’s an additional tuner output with a mute foot switch for effortless tuning.
