The Philosopher’s Rock compressor/distortion from Pigtronix crams a ton of tonal control and variety into a very small package. Its bare-bones controls belie a huge range of possible compression settings, ranging from a subtle, clean sustain boost to howling lead tones with the use of the pedal’s “Grit” switch. Though capable of extreme compression, the Philosopher’s Rock is low-noise regardless of setting, making it very suitable for use with more aggressive distortion and overdrive pedals.
