Possibly the most flexible drive pedal ever conceived, Jackson Audio's Broken Arrow V2 combines numerous different overdrive and boost circuits into one package, and wraps it all together with MIDI control capabilities. The Boost and Drive circuits may be used totally independently of each other, but the real magic happens when they're combined for rich, saturated tones.

The Boost circuit seems simple on the surface, but there are actually more capabilities than meets the eye. While there is just a single Boost level control on top, hold down the Boost footswitch to enter Program mode, where you can select between four different circuits for customizing Broken Arrow's boost to your needs. These circuits feature different internal EQ settings, allowing you to emphasize or cut different frequencies when engaged.

The overdrive section of the Broken Arrow is based upon the iconic TS-808 Tubescreamer, but it goes well beyond what the original could do. One such addition is the three-band active EQ, adding the studio-staple Baxandall equalizer to the Broken Arrow. The bands have been tuned carefully for guitar-centric frequencies, and all controls offer 12dB of boost or cut with a center detent for neutral settings.

Like the Boost circuit, Drive features four different presets that allow you to select between different clipping stages, with built-in level compensation to account for the changes in gain structures. These range from classic Tubescreamer tones and asymmetrical clipping to Marshall-style LED clipping. Additionally, the Broken Arrow offers a unique Gain Cycle feature, which is activate dby pressing both footswitches at once. This allows for a quick way to jump between various divisions of the Gain knob: 25%, 50% 75% and full 100%. Of course, 100% is dependent on the actual position of the knob, so all gain divisions will be calculated from there.

If that's not enough, Broken Arrow V2 adds MIDI control to the various switching and circuit features of the pedal. With external MIDI control change (CC) messages, you can turn the drive or boost on and off, switch drive or boost presets, and jump to different Gain Cycle levels. In a world where drive pedals largely stick to the traditions of the past, Broken Arrow V2 refreshingly steps into the future of guitar tone possibilities.
