Infinitedigits Zeptocore
Zeptocore from Infinitedigits is a handheld, open-source audio mangler built for intuitive button mashing, performative effects, and smashingly sliced samples. Expanding on the instantly gratifying fun of their Pikocore sampler, Infinitedigits has imbued the Zeptocore with more buttons for sequencing and mangling beats, breaks, and tones. With up to 8GB expandable storage via SD card, Zeptocore is prepared to slice and scatter from a much larger sample memory, delivering even more hours of mashable musical fun.
Fill up to 16 banks of 16 samples, or simply start your Zeptocore journey with the included breakbeats and other samples shipped with the unit. Samples on the Zeptocore are formatted as stereo 16-bit files at 44.1kHz, imparting a subtle lo-fi crunch to all your sounds. You can interact with samples in various ways using one of three available modes: Jump, Mash, and Bass. In Jump mode, Zeptocores 16 buttons jump between slices of your sample, instantly creating sequences from one shots, loops, and retriggers perfect for breakbeat madness. In Mash mode, buttons toggle one of 16 diverse effects to process ongoing audio, creating performative pitch, timbre, and other modulations. Bass mode lets you play in melodic bass lines under your sequence to accompany the sample-slicing above.
Zeptocore may clock other devices or receive clock from its analog clock input/output and via USB MIDI. Samples are normally quantized to the clock, letting you freely mash away without worrying about missing a beat. These settings can be adjusted or turned off entirely for looser rhythms and ambiences. Sequences can be chained to create longer passages, and the output may be resampled for further processing. Many button combinations unveil deeper functionality and handy tricks for addressing sample sequences. If you're looking for a small and portable device for creating wildly mangled breaks, or samples of any kind, the Zeptocore offers fun and immediate sample manipulation with plenty of special tricks and customizability to keep you inspired over countless explorations.
