After three years of work, Golden Age Project presents the ELA M251E, an authentic recreation of the iconic Telefunken tube microphone. Originally designed by AKG at the behest of Telefunken, the 251 is centered around the AKG CK12 capsule and was the first Telefunken microphone—though they distributed and placed their name on Neumann mics previously. Lauded for its sound, original ELA M 251s go for a pretty penny, but now Golden Age Project presents the authentic sound at a lower, more attainable price.

Reverse engineered from an original, the polar pattern switch is complex and can only be assembled by hand: the Golden Age Project M 251 features this same mechanism with the same feel. The internal soldering was also reverse engineering and maintained for the same electrical signal flow. Internal rubber cores for all plug and silver plate connectors were remade to minimize signal loss. Even the mismatched mesh head color was preserved and all parts are interchangeable between this version and the original. Comparisons were painstakingly made in frequency response and sonic characteristics between the Golden Age Project ELA M251E and the original in order to get to this authentic replica.
