The Unpleasant Surprise, from Fairfield Circuitry, melds the realms of the strange and the versatile into a truly unique and dynamic fuzz pedal unlike anything the world has seen. However, don’t expect to be able to coax beautiful melodic passages out of this thing, the name is a dead give away. With only two knobs and three switches, The Unpleasant Surprise is capable of some truly brutal tones.

The unit’s switches affect the tremolo, amplifier bias, and compression. Conversely, there are knobs for volume, output, and onset parameters. Turning the onset in a clockwise direction increases the amount of fuzz, going from raunchy gated artifacts all the way to beautifully sustained distortion in the vain of Nine Inch Nails et al.
