The EHXTortion, from Electro-Harmonix, imparts a vast tonal landscape in tandem with a characteristic versatility upon any pedalboard lucky enough to bask in its graces. The pedal’s straightforward front panel controls and intuitive design make it easy to dial in the perfect tone and glean some extra inspiration while doing so.

Internally, the EHXTortion makes use of a JFET overdrive that enables it to achieve a distinctly tube-like response. There’s also a boost switch with independent Volume and Gain controls, as well as a 4-way pre-gain selector that corresponds with the Treble, Middle, and Bass controls for optimal sonic witchery. If all this wasn’t enough, the pedal also features a balanced XLR output with cabinet emulation, meaning it can be used as a preamp.
