Elby Designs CGS738 Mangler
The Elby Designs CGS738 Mangler brings Ken Stone’s CGS38 saw pitch shifter to the realm of Eurorack modular synthesis. The module utilizes a combination of op-amp summers and comparators to achieve stunning results like complex waveshaping and sawtooth wave pitch shifting.
When used to mangle waveforms, the module can accept any combination of waveforms and control voltages then allows users to fine-tune the parameters of the incoming signals. Here, CV from a VCO, LFO, envelope generator, keyboard, or sequencer can be implemented as an offset signal for added flavor.
When used as a sawtooth pitch shifter, the module accepts an audio-rate sawtooth and sawtooth LFO into both of its inputs. A dedicated switch allows for each input to be muted so that adequate balancing can be achieved. When engaged, one output contains the sum of both frequencies while the other is the difference between each as per the relative slope of each sawtooth wave. Getting this perfect will require some patience and fine-tuning, but the results are well worth it.
