dsp.coffee 22 Deaf Chinchillas

22 Deaf Chinchillas from dsp.coffee is a fully analog synthesizer voice module built from Electrosmith's line of analog submodule utilities. This collection of basic building blocks is combined behind a single 12hp panel and features normalled connections between its component parts. This allows for classic synth voice operation with only a few simple connections, as well as individual breakout jacks for more creative patching.

The internal AS3340 VCO is built around the CEM3340 VCO chip, offering the same fully featured VCO found in some of the most beloved analog synths in music history. Multiple waveform outputs, linear and exponential FM, hard and soft sync, and PWM give this oscillator a comprehensive toolset for timbral variety. The saw and pulse waves are normalled to the AS2164 dual VCA, then pass to the SSI2144 dual VCF. This stable and musical filter self oscillates as a pure sine wave, giving you even more options for tone generation and modulation.

In addition to this solid subtractive voice, creative patching reveals further capabilities from the chinchillas within. Because the outputs are DC coupled, negative CV values sent into the V/oct input will allow this module to be used as a quad LFO with very slow speeds. Self-patching between the dual VCF and multiple FM and sync options turn this into a powerful source of cross-modulated cacophony and gnarled FM tones. Perfect for smaller systems, polyphonic patches, and creative self-patching, 22 Deaf Chinchillas is one group of rodents that shouldn't be overlooked.
