Solid State Logic Alpha VHD-Pre 4-Channel Microphone Preamp
Alpha VHD-Pre from SSL is a four-channel preamp in 1U with an additional Variable Harmonic Distortion circuit for extra grit. VHD first entered the market with the highly-acclaimed SSL Duality console, and since then it has become a go-to tool for countless studio engineers and musicians.
At low gain settings, the preamps deliver the famous clean and transparent SSL sound—but as the dial moves further clockwise VHD kicks in, gradually adding 2nd and 3rd order harmonic distortion to the signal, making the sound richer and warmer. At the highest knob position VHD subjects the input signal to a gritty transistor-like distortion with a distinctly SSL sonic character. Connection-wise, Alpha VHD-Pre is equipped with both XLR and 1/4” jacks with Hi-Z, Pad, and +48V switches to accommodate for mic, instrument, or line-level signals.
