Synthstrom Deluge

Deluge from Synthstrom is a portable electronic music workstation, bringing together synthesis, sampling, and effects through deep sequencing and arranging capabilities. In addition to its robust sound production possibilities, the sequencer can also be used to control external instruments via MIDI and CV/Gate outputs with virtually limitless tracks, making Deluge a strong contender as the beating heart of a large instrument collection. While it can be powered via a separately available power supply, the Deluge features an internal rechargeable battery and even a built-in microphone and speaker, empowering endless creativity, sound design, and inspired performances wherever your musical journey takes you.

The sequencer in Deluge provides an incredible amount of functionality for a backpack-sized groovebox, ready to push both internal and external instruments to their limits for fully-realized and highly-nuanced musical arrangements. A grid of 128 pads with full RGB lighting provide piano-roll style sequencing for each track of a project. Track amount is only limited by the internal 64mb RAM, with a theoretical limit over two million sequenced notes across all tracks. Using this simple interface, you can assemble hundreds of rows and variations to the Nth degree, with per-step parameter sequencing, probability and step-conditions, euclidean triggering, polymetric time divisions, and more. MIDI tracks allow for the sequencing of not only CC values and program changes, but also supports recording and playing back MPE data from external controllers. Finally, song and arrangement modes let you assemble sequences into longer compositions, keeping Deluge at the center of each step in the creation process.

Given its comprehensive approach to electronic music creation, Deluge offers versatile sound generation through synthesis and sampling, which come alive under control of its powerful sequencer. The internal synth engine provides up to 64 voices of polyphony, with subtractive, FM, and wavetable tools to create synth sounds both classic and bespoke. Synth parameters are edited using an intuitive, context-based encoder workflow, with the most crucial parameters set to readily accessible buttons, including space for three user-defined custom parameters. A highly-customizable modulation matrix makes routing LFOs and envelopes intuitive and fun. Once your synth sound is set, the synthesizer track can be played live and recorded to the sequencer in Keyboard mode, while a versatile suite of effects adds additional depth to your sounds.

Sampling on the Deluge provides further opportunities for sound manipulation, letting you bring in your favorite drum hits, textures, multisampled instruments, and more into this robust composition environment. Samples load directly from the SD card, giving you ample room to store sound files with the included 32gb card. In addition to the same suite of filters, effects, and modulation matrix as the synth engine, you can time-stretch and pitch-shift samples to create new timbres and timings from recorded material. Up to 90 samples can be played simultaneously, so you never have voices dropping out during even the busiest of musical moments. Sample slicing, resampling, and more are all available in Deluge, offering a comprehensive platform for sample-based arrangements and sound designing.

Beyond these core functionalities, Deluge continues to impress with nearly endless tools and technical capabilities. An overdubbing audio looper is available for live looping from the audio inputs, as well as looping MIDI clips, with automatic tempo setting to keep loops in time. Deluge can work as a MIDI host for up to four devices using a USB hub or B-to-B USB cable, making your favorite controller usable with no computer required to mediate data streams. MIDI and CV/gate connectivity provides plenty of patchable possibilities in the studio, as do its multiple input options for sampling and looping.

After inferior grooveboxes comes Deluge, ready to deliver an outstandingly deep platform for electronic music creation and performance. If you are looking for a do-it-all workstation for on the go composing, a potent sketchbook for musical ideas, or an impressively versatile centerpiece to an expansive hardware set-up, let Deluge wash over your studio and feel the power of one of the greatest modern grooveboxes ever created.
