Mod FM D 8-Voice Hybrid Desktop Synthesizer
Jomox Mod FM D
The Mod FM D from Jomox brings their fantastic four-operator FM synthesizer to a desktop format, providing the same lush 8-voice hybrid architecture complete with modular connectivity. Under the hood is a robust four operator FM engine with two modulation LFOs/VCOs per voice. Using a matrix of sixteen encoders, you can adjust FM amount between each operator independently, providing a vast range of timbral manipulations along with the twenty-six built-in FM algorithms. Using the ADSR envelope for each operator and the two LFOs/VCOs per voice, you can apply FM and AM to each operator, further expanding the Mod FM D's immense sonic palette.
In each of the eight voices, an SSI2140 based analog filter is available for warming and shaping complex FM tones. Both 24dB and 12dB state-variable outputs are provided, with continuous crossfading between low pass, band pass, and high pass modes to enable smooth filter morphing effects. The filter section also contains a dedicated snappy ADSR and LFO. In combination with the snappy transistor VCA inherited from Jomox's drum devices, along with an additional metal noise sound source, the Mod FM D excels at crafting FM drum and percussion sounds alongside more traditionally tuneful sound design. Take this impressive engine even further with the Mod FM D's onboard effects, including reverb and two delays which affect the stereo mix output. These flexible effects offer a perfect end-of-chain processor for the synth engine, providing a wide range of applications from rhythmic synchronized repeats to short flanging effects.
As a standalone unit, the Mod FM D provides a comprehensive polyphonic synthesizer that can also be used with full 8-part multitimbrality. MIDI input and output, as well as a stereo audio input which is mixed into the effects section, provide plentiful ways to interact with a broader studio. Of course, the vast collection of 3.5mm CV and Gate inputs, as well as individual outputs for each voice, make the Mod FM D a fantastic polyphonic partner to a larger modular synth system. Whether you're crafting DX-style digital synth sounds, clangorous technoid percussion, or any other of the engine's impressively vast areas of expertise, Jomox's Mod FM D brings an exceptional source of rich hybrid synth sounds to your desktop.
