X from CG Products is a four-quadrant multiplier that operates as a bipolar or unipolar voltage controlled amplifier with waveshaping. The module includes two inputs, marked X and Y, and one output, W. The Y input eschews any additional processing, while the eponymous X input sports multiple controls to control its amplitude and behavior. The level control sets the amplitude of the input, while offset shifts the 0 position of X either positively or negatively from -5V to +5V. Linear/exponential switch controls the behavior and waveshape of the X input signal. In linear mode, the module acts as a traditional four-quadrant multiplier where X and Y are multiplied together, great for bipolar amplitude modulation, typically referred to as ring modulation. Exponential mode adds an exponential curve to the X input, allowing you to bend and alter the waveshape of the input signal. However, the exponential waveshaping circuit rectifies the X input, clipping negative voltages.
