Black Noise Modular Eclipse

Sometimes simple waveforms and mono output just aren't enough—Eclipse from Black Noise Modular tackles both of these individual concepts at once, blending complex waveshaping with unique stereo processing for truly otherworldly timbres. Centered around the concept of all-analog oscillator wave-morphing, Eclipse deploys a number of different waveshaping techniques to create rich, expressive sounds that defy our meager human vocabulary. Black Noise do so by utilizing their own unique waveshaper they call the Morphing Waveshaper. Inspired by the VCS3, this waveshaper is a thru-zero full-wave rectifier that has a character all its own. As the Morph knob is turned clockwise, the selected waveform is gradually rectified, creating extra harmonics. The wave reaches full-wave rectification at the knob's mid-point, seamlessly switching to a 180 degree phase shift as the knob continues to be turned. Additionally, each waveform comes with its own output, meaning you can use Eclipse with external mixers for endless waveform potential. An extremely dynamic and expressive oscillator in larger systems, every single parameter is voltage controllable, providing plenty of potential for complex patching.

In addition to the run-of-the-mill FM input, Eclipse offers the Index input, giving you CV control over the depth of said frequency modulation. The FM signal is processed through an internal VCA that's controlled by the Index input—with the VCA being fully open when Index is unpatched—before being attenuated by the FM knob. This level of control combined with the complex stereo processing make for elaborate yet harmonically satisfying timbres.

Each with their own unique flavor of processing, Eclipse provides multiple spread modes for different types of wave-shaping with different spatial effects. Dial in the width and feel of the spatialization with the Spread control—a particularly fun parameter when combined with the corresponding CV input. Blending the Morphing Waveshaper with the standard waveforms, Eclipse utilizes the intersection of these waves to create unique stereo effects and complex timbral expression. Along with the standard musical-range VCO operation, Eclipse can also utilize both LFO and UFLO modes—ULFO being a sub-audio, super slow LFO mode, with cycles stretching up to 32 minutes—making it an extremely versatile global modulation source. When a typical VCO just isn't enough, Eclipse from Black Noise Modular combines unique waveshaping with powerful spatial effects to create a truly one-of-a-kind sound.
