Behringer 961

The Behringer 961 Interface is a critical piece for connecting your Eurorack system to Behringer's Moog-inspired modules, allowing V-trigs to be converted to S-trigs and vice versa. If you are mixing Behringer's Moog-style modules (particularly the 911 Envelope Generator) with other Eurorack manufacturers, this module is strongly recommended.

A V-trig is your standard, positive-going gate or trigger signal that goes from 0V (otherwise known as ground or gnd) to a positive voltage, usually 5V. The rising edge of a V-trig is the thing that most Eurorack modules look for to start an event, such as an envelope or step sequencer. S-trigs, on the other hand, are held normally high and close to 0V initiate an event with a compatible module. This is a remnant of an older (Moog) standard for modular synthesis, and is uncommon in modern instruments.

The 961 features two V-trig to S-trig converters. Each channel has two rows, A and B, that are logically OR'd together, meaning the output will be high when any of the input signals are high. The B row has a trigger delay built in, allowing you to set a time between when the module receives a V-trig and when it outputs an S-trig. The time ranges from 40ms to 4 seconds. Additionally, there are two S-trig to V-trig converters. Finally, the top of the module features audio to V-trig converter. The sensitivity control sets at what threshold level in the audio will cause a V-trig to fire.
