The Ballista Blast from Shakmat Modular is a hybrid analog and digital synth voice with a deep internal-modulation capabilities and minimal menu diving—all in a modest 12hp. It features a versatile 16-bit 48kHz digital oscillator core, which provides three main synthesis engines: Subtractive, Wavetable, and FM. Each engine is packed with its own set of operational modes for a wide spectrum of potential sounds. The Subtractive engine offers modes such as Sub, Unison, Chord, and more with each mode's parameters able to be modulated with external CV using the multipurpose CV inputs and controls. The FM mode offers a number of different algorithms for crafting a wide variety of complex timbres, perfect for cutting synth sounds. The Wavetable mode provides 32 wavetables to choose from, ranging from digital, to chiptune, to realistic emulations of acoustic and electric instruments. These wavetables can be twisted, blended, and modulated to create a vast array of evolving sounds. In addition to the factory provided wavetables, user-made tables can be imported via the onboard SD card slot.

The Ballista Blast comes equipped with four different types of analog filters, including two-pole low, mid, and high-pass filters, along with a resonant four-pole low-pass, ideal for when you're in need of those extra-squelchy bass lines. Along with the filter, a number of different parameters can be modulated using the internal envelope generator, giving you access to a vast dimension of timbral manipulation. Add grit to your synth voice using the analog distortion circuit, which can add both symmetrical and asymmetrical soft clipping to your sound. Roll the dice on any or all of the module's parameters using the gate-triggered randomizer, which provides per-parameter depth control for creating controlled chaos at any scale. Employ the full fidelity of your performance with the Velocity CV jack, which allows you to use keyboard velocity as an additional modulation source for the array of parameters. Save and recall your settings instantly with preset memory function, allowing you to save up to 256 total presets for building your own library of sounds.
