The Rare Waves Grendel consists of four analog bandpass filters running in parallel alongside a control voltage processor that coaxes vowel-esque tones from the input signal. The Grendel features three CV inputs: Size, Articulator X, and Articulator Y. Each have been customized to accept 5V, but can accept voltages in the range of +/- 10V.
Size shifts the relation of the filters to one another, keeping them in parallel the entire time. This causes the filters “mouth” to widen or tighten. The X/Y Articulators work in tandem to pick vowel tones from a two-dimensional map. These controls can be connected to a variety of modules for aspiring effects. However, the module really opens up when paired with a joystick controller or a two-channel MIDI-to-CV converter. Here, the ideal range for optimal effectiveness is anywhere between 0 and 5 volts.
