Perfect Circuit West Coast Intermediate System
Perfect Circuit's West Coast Intermediate system is a powerful synth for creating experimental soundscapes, percussive sequences, and more. With an extremely colorful audio path and multifaceted control voltage generation, the West Coast Intermediate system is perfect for any musician excited about experimenting with classic techniques of analog synthesis. Assembled in a Make Noise powered skiff with room to grow, this system could easily become the backbone of any setup.
The Make Noise DPO is an uncommonly flexible dual analog oscillator directly inspired by the Buchla 259. With built-in modulation buses and waveshaping section, it alone is capable of an enormous palette of sounds. Linear and exponential FM for each oscillator, built-in pitch following / lag between oscillators, and one of the craziest sounding wavefolders in Eurorack make the DPO an obvious centerpiece for this system. The LxD offers two flavors of lowpass gate, for rubbery bongo sounds and plucks. As well as its capacity for powerful CV processing, the Befaco A*B+C also offers amplitude modulation, ring modulation, and a host of waveshaping processes that make it an excellent playground for sound morphing and mangling. And of course, the Erica Synths Pico Output offers headphone output and line level outs for interfacing with recording gear or a live PA.
Naturally, we could not call this system "West Coast" without offering a powerful set of tools for control voltage generation and manipulation. The SSF Ultra Random Analog offers multiple random voltages for integrating the characteristic "Uncertainty" of classic West Coast instruments. The XAOC Tirana offers a simple four-step sequencer reminiscent of the Music Easel's Sequential Voltage Source, while two Make Noise Functions provide super flexible means of generating smooth and stepped voltages: great for envelopes, LFOs, envelope following, sample and hold, plus all of the magical tricks possible with a Serge DUSG. The Befaco A*B+C, in addition to being an awesome audio utility, is an excellent tool for scaling, inverting, and offsetting control signals. Together, these modules offer an endlessly flexible means of dialing in control over your system.
The West Coast Intermediate system is an extremely flexible sampling of West Coast synthesis techniques, from wavefolders and lowpass gates to slope generators and random voltages. For everything from Morton Subotnick bongos to Alessandro Cortini drones, the West Coast Intermediate system is an excellent starting point or expansion for any modular rig.
