Perfect Circuit's West Coast Expanded system is a powerful toolkit for musicians looking to dive deep into the expansive sound world of analog synthesis through the lens of classic experimental electronic music. Offering a complete set of tools with room to grow, this system is an excellent way to experience the ethos of Buchla and Serge with some modern twists.

This system's audio signal path is geared toward extreme modulation and creation of dense, lush textures. The Make Noise DPO is a Buchla 259-inspired oscillator with characteristic waveshaping and deep FM, extending some of the techniques of the 259 into considerably more extreme territory. The Random*Source NTO is a direct translation of Serge's classic New Timbral Oscillator in Eurorack format. Famous for its brutally raw, powerful saw waves and its exceptionally deep FM response, the NTO is responsible for much of the iconic sounds of the Serge ecosystem. The Make Noise Optomix is a dual vactrol-based lowpass gate that excels at plucked sounds and warm coloration of incoming signals with subtle filtering. The WMD Aperture offers more intense filtering options: inspired by the Serge Variable Width Bandpass Filter and the Buchla 291, the Aperture allows for a wide variety of bandpass responses but also intense feedback and clangorous self-oscillation, a powerful extension of the capabilities of its predecessors. The Befaco A*B+C offers signal scaling and ring modulation, while the Intellijel uVCA provides more traditional VCA and AM response. The ALM HPO allows connection to an audio interface or live PA.

Of course, CV generation and manipulation is similarly multifaceted. A Frap Tools Sapel provides the system the characterstic "uncertainty" of a classic West Coast system, modeled after the Buchla 266. The Befaco A*B+C and ARC Serge Dual Processor provide dynamic, flexible means of scaling and mixing control voltage. The Malekko AD/LFO offers six simple envelopes or LFOs, while the Make Noise Maths, a derivation of the Serge Dual Universal Slope Generator, can do everything from envelopes and LFOs to peculiar filtering, envelope following, glide generation, and far more. The Make Noise Pressure Points and Brains act as a three-track sequencer and capacitive touch sensitive keyboard, and the Intellijel uMIDI enables control from any MIDI controller, or even directly from a DAW.
