Perfect Circuit West Coast Deluxe System

Perfect Circuit's West Coast Deluxe system is one of the most powerful and fun instruments we could envision in 208hp of space. Inspired by the sound and multifunctionality of Buchla and Serge systems, we have assembled a 6U homage to the power of the "West Coast" approach. Featuring modules by some of our favorite manufacturers, the West Coast Deluxe is a voltage vessel ready for years of exploration and discovery.

The Make Noise DPO and Random*Source Serge New Timbral Oscillator (NTO) form the core of the system's sound production, each a powerful VCO capable of rich, deep modulation. Each represents a different part of "West Coast" sound, the NTO highly characteristic of Serge Tcherepnin's systems while the DPO sounds powerfully similar to the 1970s Buchla 259 pushed to its most colorful extremes. A Make Noise Optomix offers two lowpass gates perfect for plucky, percussive sounds while a WMD Aperture variable-width bandpass filter offers a powerful means by which to carve out of the oscillators' dense sounds. An Alright Chronoblob offers voltage-controllable delay while an Intellijel Springray 2 provides the swampy, murky, otherworldly ambience of a traditional spring reverb. The system also boasts an Intellijel uVCA II for clean amplification and AM as well as a Befaco A*B+C for ring modulation and dirtier tone shaping. And of course, and Erica Pico Output enables connection directly to an audio interface or live PA.

This system's control voltage capabilities are as endless as its sonic palette. The Frap Tools Sapel offers a source of uncertainty and animation, providing smooth and stepped random voltages that bring unexpected life to patches. The Make Noise Maths, modeled after the Serge Dual Universal Slope Generator, is a powerful utility capable of envelopes, LFOs, filtering effects, envelope following, and far more. The Befaco A*B+C and ARC Serge Dual Processor offer flexible scaling and processing of CV and audio, and the Malekko AD/LFO offers six additional envelopes or LFOs. The system also contains some powerful tools for user interaction and sequencing: the Make Noise Pressure Points + Brains and Malekko Voltage Block. Pressure Points and Brains are a Serge TKB-inspired touchplate keyboard and sequencer, superb for playing your synthesizer with your hands. The Voltage Block is a sequencer, voltage memory bank, 8-output keyboard, and so much more: like the Buchla MARF or 251e, it allows for sequencing and voltage addressing of stored voltages, enabling complex multitrack sequencing, voltage quantization, and far more. And of course, a Malekko Sync + CV/Gate Expander offer MIDI connection for your rig.

The West Coast Deluxe system is Perfect Circuit's nod to some of our favorite innovators in music technology and composition. Whether one finds inspiration in the colorful language of Buchla's instruments, the raw programmability of a Serge system, or simply in the beautiful textures of Suzanne Ciani, the driving pulses of Morton Subotnick, the rich soundscapes of Todd Barton, or the screaming improvisations of Bob Ostertag, the West Coast Deluxe system is a nuanced instrument of sonic discovery, awaiting exploration.
