Perfect Circuit’s Rhythm Series Intermediate is a Eurorack system for the creation of rhythmically-driven music featuring progressive sound generation techniques. Built in a Make Noise powered skiff with room to expand, this system is capable of repetitive dance grooves, sputtery glitch patterns, and far more.

Built around several extremely flexible sound sources, this system sounds like no other drum machine before it. Noise Engineering’s Basimilus Iteritas Alter additive synth voice excels at percussion sounds, but is easily capable of working as a melodic or bassline voice. With clever modulation, it can switch from deep kicks to crisp hats to slippery leads at a moment’s notice. The WMD Chimera uses a specialized granular synthesis algorithm to create metallic percussion sounds, great for industrial noise, clanging metal snares, and the sound of chains being dragged along the ground. Intellijel’s Plonk is a physical modelling synth voice, capable of everything from pitched percussion and bowed strings to drum sounds and peculiar, impossible soundscapes. It particularly excels at percussive sounds, and offers dynamic preset recall and randomization that allows it to produce a wide variety of sounds even over a short amount of time. And of course, the trusted Erica Pico Drums is a two-voice one-shot sample player, preloaded with many high-quality percussion sounds. The Pittsburgh Lifeforms 2+2 acts as a flexible audio mixer to combine the system’s sounds, and the Erica Synths Pico Out allows easy connection to headphones, audio interface, and more.

The system’s rhythmic backbone is a Malekko Varigate 4+, which allows for four channels of probability-based gate or note sequencing. Offering several options for randomization, polyrhythmic sequencing, and more, the Varigate can produce standard beats or immensely detailed, complex rhythmic structures. The 2hp Seq offers melodic sequencing, while the WMD / SSF Modbox provides two functionally distinct LFOs, a noise source, and a sample & hold for providing modulation and animation throughout your system.
