Perfect Circuit's Glitch Series Expanded system is a powerful toolkit for musicians looking to dive deep into the world of modular synthesis through the lens of intricately detailed digital sound design. Preassembled in a TipTop Mantis case, this system is built with room to expand and is well suited for a variety of musical applications, from rhythmic sequencing to generative soundscapes to all-out digital noise.

This system’s sound sources are enormously varied. Noise Engineering's Loquelic Iteritas offers three esoteric synthesis algorithms for everything from classic phase modulation to bizarre voice-like VOSIM sounds. The Make Noise Mysteron duophonic waveguide voice excels at percussive and plucked sounds, with on-board “mutation” algorithms taking its otherwise clean, string-like tones and bending them into aggressive bursts of digital noise. Make Noise’s Morphagene adds a powerful granular voice: Morphagene excels at manipulation of prerecorded audio, but via its Time Lag Accumulation features is also capable of processing incoming audio in realtime, turning any sound into time travel drones, flickering clouds, and stuttering time-stretched insanity. Harvestman's Kermit offers two wavetable oscillators capable of operating in low and high frequency ranges, making it a hugely flexible LFO and audio source.

Audio processing in the system is also tremendously flexible. The Erica Synths Pico VCF3 provides Moog-like lowpass filtering, while the Make Noise Dynamix functions as two fast-response lowpass gates (even capable of amplitude modulation effects). The WMD Geiger Counter is a digital distortion/bitcrusher with internal wavetable lookup functionality, an ideal tool for decimating any audio signal. The Qu-Bit Mixology offers a performance-oriented four channel mixer, while the Erica Pico DSP provides reverbs, delays, and other DSP effects: perfect as a send effect on the Mixology.

Control within the system is handled by a small set of versatile modules. The Malekko Varigate 8+ provides eight tracks of probability-based gate sequencing, two channels of pitch CV sequencing, and a vast array of options for creating complex rhythmic structures from polyrhythm to stuttering breaks. Paired with Malekko’s AD/LFO, the VG8+ is a powerful means of providing rhythmic animation to the system. Further modulation can be deployed from the WMD/SSF Modbox, a dual LFO, noise source, and sample & hold perfect for controlling several parameters at once. And of course, a modular would not be a modular without some VCAs: the Intellijel uVCA II acts as a two channel mixer/dual VCA equally capable of processing audio and CV.
