The EQ Deluxe from Origin Effects is an homage to the 1950s studio classic, the Pultec EQP-1A—a three-band inductive EQ, revised and optimised for guitar and bass, with a driveable valve-style output stage built in. What made the original such a workhorse in high-end studios for decades was a combination of things: unorthodox but highly musical EQ curves, the gentle saturation of its push-pull output stage, and the legendary "Pultec Low-End Trick." Boosting and cutting the low band simultaneously, at slightly offset frequencies, lifts the very bottom end while pulling out the mud just above it, adding weight and clarity from a single move—the reason the original became a favorite for bass processing.

EQ Deluxe brings that circuit to the pedalboard elegantly. In a nod to the original Pultec, you'll find independent Boost and Cut knobs on the low band, switchable between 20, 30 and 60 Hz, letting you set how the two overlap with precision. The midrange is semi-parametric, offering six selectable centre frequencies from 800Hz to 5 kHz, each with its own bandwidth and boost controls. The high band pairs a High Cut control with a choice of 5, 10 or 20 kHz corner frequencies. A Gain control lets you push the output stage into the gentle, harmonically rich saturation the classic was known for.

While tuned for guitar and bass in particular, EQ Deluxe integrates just as readily into other set-ups, offering control and versatility: subtle sweetening at one end of its range, aggressive tone-shaping and drive at the other.
