Noisy Fruits Lab Überding

Überding from Noisy Fruits Lab is a multifunction meta-module that makes it much easier to say what it is not than what it is. Far from a defined "what you see is what you get" design, it hosts a multitude of functions, scoping everything from handy utilities and sound analysis tools to complex CV generators, sound processors, and advanced synthesis engines. Everything is managed through its organized interface. An RGB OLED screen at the center, a couple of controls to each side of it, a waveform-shaped RGB strip right below, and a quartet of push-button encoders at the bottom; above the screen are a Menu/Page button, SD card slot, and a USB-C port. Jacks are placed at the top: a stereo audio in, four CV and four Trigger inputs, MIDI I/O, four Trigger outputs, and a stereo audio out.

Originating as a partly open-source project, Überding is inherently expandable, and the range of programs already running on it is plain evidence: a quad sequencer, a wide variety of effects, a granular synthesizer, a sampler, a polyphonic wavetable synth, a virtual analog bass synth, a multimode filter, a dual Turing machine, and a collection of utilities that includes a spectrum analyzer, level meters, a MIDI/CV controller, and even a synchronized 16/24-bit audio recorder—with more to come. Featuring a comfortably spacious interface, Überding is a "Swiss Army knife" that is a pleasure to use, and between the screen and the strip there's enough visual feedback that getting lost is not much of a problem.
