Nocturnis Audio Evolving Patterns

Evolving Patterns from Nocturnis Audio is a powerful source for generating unique rhythms in a Eurorack modular synthesizer, allowing you to create a rhythm and then smoothly introduce variations on your original groove. Two powerful outputs can be used to control a single voice or distributed throughout your patch, one for gates and another for random CV values which are sent with each new gate. Turning up the Density control, clocked gates will start to emerge from the Gate output, with each clock pulse sending a gate at the highest setting. From here, the Evolution control starts to introduce a controlled amount of randomness into your sequence, slowly adding and subtracting gates to create smooth, semi-repeating developments. Evolving Patterns is optimized for use with external clocks, but also features an internal clock that can be adjusted in tempo by sending multiple triggers to the reset output.

For any sequence, steps can be set between eight and thirty-two with the step control, adjusting the length of clock pulses before the pattern repeats. Sliders for Gate length and Gate random let you add specific or spontaneous variations to gate length, while the Length x4 and x2 sliders introduce longer quantized pulses to add rhythmic syncopation. In addition to Evolution and Density, all of these slider controls feature CV inputs, enabling flexible rhythms that can respond to other elements of your patch. Evolving Patterns also features a Ratchet mode, enabled by pressing both the Steps and Load buttons, which adds ratcheting roll-like triggers to each variation introduced by the Length x4 control. The Enable input allows you to mute and unmute the sequence with a gate signal, inviting musical call-and-response figures, complex control networks, and more. Finally, Nocturnis Audio has ensured you never get too far in the weeds with all this evolution potential, adding a loading and saving feature that lets you return to a stored sequence after creating variations on stage.
