After years of speculation and anticipation, MXR brings back the iconic rackmount processor from the late 1970s—the Flanger/Doubler—in a compact pedal format. The reduction in size doesn't compromise the sound. Staying faithful to the original analog design, down to the bucket-brigade circuitry and the control set, the pedal delivers the same vintage character that ran through the rigs of guitar's heavy hitters—Dimebag Darrell, Randy Rhoads, Zakk Wylde, and Eric Johnson among them.

The classic design still rewards experimentation, with sounds that remain as relevant as ever. An array of controls sets the course: MIX for the dry/wet balance, REGEN for feedback, MANUAL for the average delay time, and WIDTH and SPEED for modulation depth and rate respectively. Two buttons change the outcome dramatically: DOUBLER lengthens the delay, pushing the effect across the border from flanging into chorusing—and, with MANUAL wound up, out into delay territory. INVERT flips the polarity of the wet signal, unearthing another layer of hollow, airy effects.

The pedal also brings strong connectivity for pairing with other equipment. A Line/Instr switch above the input shifts the headroom, letting hot sources through without clipping. There's also CV in and out, which makes it a natural fit for synth set-ups and for boards with interactive elements.
