Midas 502
The Midas 502 is a 500-series mic/line preamp, perfect for amplifying signals and bringing them into the 500-series rack environment for further processing. It uses legendary Midas preamps with ultra low-noise input transistors.The low and high pass filters were adapted from Midas' XL4 console. They allow for sculpting the frequency makeup of the incoming audio signal. Make a vocalist sound brighter or make a kick drum sound darker with the turn of a knob.
The 502 features a huge gain range from -20dB to +80dB and the input stage handles up to +24dBu with no pad. With hotter signals it imparts a characteristic soft clipping that imparts a slight harmonic character to the input signal without clipping or distorting. The TX switch selects between electronic and transformer outputs. This imparts a vintage sound that will cause the lower frequency to become saturated when driven with hot signals. Both the input gain and output trim feature 11-segment LED display for indicating signal activity.
