Michigan Synth Works MSW-820 (Eurorack)

Put an entire monosynth into your Eurorack case with the MSW-820 from Michigan Synth Works. The signal path starts with a pair of analog oscillators featuring both sawtooth and pulse waveforms and three octave ranges. Animate the pulse waveforms of each oscillator and blend between it and the sawtooth waveform with the shape control. Turn on the hard sync control to reset the phase of VCO1 with VCO2, then adjust the relative pitch to control how the two interact. In addition to the two primary VCOs, MSW-820 also includes a sub-oscillator and a digital sound source section. Select between a digital noise source and digital oscillator, each with a unique collection of modes and shaping options. Choose from nine noise algorithms, including white noise, brownian noise, and synced toad noise. Swap over to the digital oscillator to unlock saw stacks, harsh wavetables, and additive synthesis tones.

Combine all the internal sound sources and an external audio source with the mixer section, then choose from the filters to shape the result. The AS3109-based analog filter section is the heart of the MSW-820 delivering a plethora of filter possibilities. Select between multiple filter types and slopes with both single and dual filter modes. Mix modulation with the four sliders under the filter section and add extra color using the THIS knob to route VCO1 to modulate the filter cutoff. The digital multi-wave LFO offers multiple reset modes and LFO fade control to adjust the level of the LFO over time when the module receives a gate input or MIDI note. Alternatively, put the LFO in one-shot mode to fire off a single cycle of the LFO. The right side of the panel includes the module's I/O section. Use external CV and gates to trigger the envelopes, sequence the oscillator pitch, sync the LFO, or run other oscillators into the filter section. No need for an external MIDI to CV converter, the MSW-820 includes a dedicated TRS MIDI input, letting you sequence it directly from external keyboards, sequencers, or your DAW. The MSW-820 provides a great starting point to get into Eurorack or a full synth voice to compliment your existing system.
