The MSW-820 from Michigan Synth Works is a monosynth that takes inspiration from vintage monosynths but includes extra modern flexibility to create a fun and expressive instrument. While compact, this desktop synthesizer packs a punch, featuring sixteen filter types, dual analog VCOs with sub-oscillator, plus a digital section with LFOs, multi-algorithm oscillators and complex noise sources. The filter options range from traditional -24dB/oct low pass filters to less common types like -6dB/Oct band pass filters and all pass filters. Use the four sliders beneath the filter to create a mix of filter modulation from the LFO, mod envelope, pitch tracking, accent, or external CV. If you want to add extra grit, turn up the THIS Knob to modulate the filter cutoff using VCO1's triangle wave output.

Both analog oscillators share a primary master tune and feature pulse and sawtooth waveforms. Create complex timbres with the pulse width modulation and multiple sync options, including both VCO hard sync and note on oscillator reset. While the dual analog oscillator design provides plenty of power on its own, MSW-820's digital section adds extra timbral and modulation complexity. Select from one of eight digital synthesis models including 2op FM, saw stack, and digital percussion. Instead of a single white noise source, you get a noise rainbow to color the rest of your sound sources for unique timbral movement. The digital multi-wave LFO adds internal modulation capabilities with multiple reset/one shot modes that work in tandem with your sequences. On top of the internal sound sources and modulators, the rear of the unit features audio and CV inputs, plus MIDI over TRS and USB-C. An additional VCA provides extra control over external audio input sources.
