Cricket Sound Jewelry Synthesizer
Meng Qi Cricket
Cricket from Meng Qi is a solar-powered, multi-oscillator synthesizer with an array of different touchpoints and potentiometers, along with a wearable pin clip on the back, meaning you can take your chirping friend with you everywhere you go. Cricket is made up of three main oscillators, one for sound, two for modulation. The black plate on the front is the solar panel, which when exposed to sunlight brings Cricket to life. The controls are divided into three main sections on the front, a Pitch Touchpoint, a Mod Touchpoint and a Rhythm Touchpoint. Each of these give you hands-on interaction with Cricket's songs. The Pitch touchpoint manipulates the pitch of Cricket, while the Mod and Rhythm touchpoints affect the Mod and Rhythm oscillators respectively, creating complex interactions in every touch. On the back, the antennae of Cricket offer a Glitch Touchpoint, which can modulate the timbre of Cricket's main oscillator. The potentiometers on the back can adjust the Pitch, Mod and Rhythm sensitivity, making the touchpoints more or less reactive to your touch. The back also contains a section for adding a clip, earning Cricket the well-deserved title of "Sound Jewelry". Cricket is a cute, but surprisingly versatile little synth, and another creative sound device from Meng Qi.
