L-1 Discrete Vocoder

Festooned with no less than 23 Blacksea VCAs across three stacked boards, the Discrete 16 Channel Vocoder from L-1 is a luscious sounding vocoder that is perfect for melodic and experimental applications. Use the built-in THAT1512-based XLR mic preamp to directly plug into the module with the option to add an additional Mod input for blending two signals. Mic and Mod level have independent controls and the inputs go into a built-in compressor with Threshold control. Two carrier inputs with attenuators and overall gain give you control over the pitch tracking and processing. A Noise Gate in the center of the module provides reliable dynamic control over vocal performances.

The output section features two switches for the Odd and Even voices that will either function as normal, each channel driving its own frequency band, or alternate, which unlocks more creative possibilities by using jumpers to arrange the voice–frequency relationship. Imagine the patch points on a Moog Vocoder, but in jumper form. Independent level adjustments for the Odd and Even voices with CV control can give you some interesting movement especially when combined with the Panning controls. If that wasn't enough, a stereo effects send and return gives you the option to concoct truly dosed sounds that push the limits of human understanding.
