phase8 Acoustic Synthesizer (Standard Edition)
Korg phase8
Explore creative sound design that fuses the worlds of acoustic and electronic sound with phase8 from Korg, a hybrid acoustic and electronic synthesizer that integrates the world around you into your patches. Phase8 is in many ways a brand-new type of instrument, one that dissolves the boundaries most instruments are forces to adhere to, deftly dancing between the poles of analog and digital, percussive and melodic, or acoustic and electronic. This is all possible thanks to Korg's haptic sound generation technology, which uses an electromagnet to engage chromatically tuned resonators that are fastened to a capacitive pickup, feeding the sounds from the resonators into the synthesis engine. Because of this acoustic / electronic hybrid design, the physical world plays a major role in the sound creation on the phase8. Strike the resonators with a mallet, brush them with a bow, or caress them with a shell to actively affect the timbre of your sounds; your imagination is the only ceiling. The AIR slider allows you to define the responsiveness of the resonators to make them more or less sensitive to your touch. Another dimension of expression is the material used to interact with the resonators, which produces radically different timbres depending on what is used to interact with them. The phase8 can house eight resonators at a time, but Korg has included thirteen in total, which can be freely swapped as you see fit.
There are three main synthesis modes contained in the phase8, which cause the Envelope controls to behave differently depending on which one is selected. The first mode offers a percussive-type sound, which causes the Envelope potentiometers to raise or lower the release time, giving you access to anything from short, drum-like sounds, to other-worldly acoustic drones. In the second mode, the Envelope knobs control the sound's attack time, allowing you to create beautifully swelling, pad-like patches. Synthesize lush moving textures with the third mode, Tremolo, which gives the phase8 a wonderfully intimate sound, especially when engaging in physical interaction with the resonators.
The onboard eight-step sequencer allows you to easily create, load, and save sequences so you can get hands-on with those resonators. Take advantage of the individual eight voices using the overdub mode, which can be used to build complex, evolving sequences in moments. If you're searching for a less-organic sound, the handy Quantize control ensures perfect timing every time. Each parameter can be automated using the sequencer, giving you access to an even deeper level of timbral articulation. For even more complex patching, the phase8 provides external control over CV or MIDI TRS, allowing you create a sonic canvas that can be painted upon using the timbral-color added via your interactions with the resonators. Synthesize something truly unique with Korg's phase8, a one-of-a-kind bridge to the ethereal and unexplored world of electronic and acoustic synthesis.
