Kinotone Ribbons

Wrap yourself in a world of warbling analog tape and digital fizz with Ribbons from Kinotone, a stereo lo-fi emulator pedal delivering degraded sounds galore, a four-track looper, and performative touch modes for getting creative with effects inspired by tape, mp3 artifacts, and more. Whether you are using Ribbons as a pedalboard processor or for affecting other signals in your studio, Ribbons is ready to process any stereo signal with ease. Pushing the boundaries of functional depth in a pedal format, Ribbons also includes an onboard four-voice sine wave synthesizer that can be played with MIDI, giving you even more options for processing through its captivating lo-fi effects. The panel interface on Ribbons divides four pages of parameters between four knobs. Switch pages with the mode switch, and use the knob controls to dial in its respective parameters.

Ribbons is a lo-fi lover's dream, bringing you classic tape modulation effects like wow and flutter as well as the sounds of old equipment across the analog and digital spectrums—adding crinkles, dropouts, and static to your audio. Impart subtle nostalgia to warm up DAW tracks, or crank the settings into experimental broken territories. Tame harsh frequencies with 24dB, 4-pole low pass and high pass filters, and add that extra sizzle classic tape compression or saturation. Finally, a dedicated dry/wet control allows you to balance the amount of effect mixed with your input signal.

The sounds of tape are great, but let's not forget what tape is for... recording! That's why Ribbons also includes a four-track loop recorder, with independent loops of up to 20 seconds at normal speed. Record in and blend tracks into a mini experimental tape studio, with per-track controls for volume, direction, speed, and speed scale. For classic tape techniques, you can overdub infinitely, letting you stack varispeed loops to make chords, create flurries of ping-ponging playback heads, and much more.

Adding performative control to this immensely vast feature set, Ribbons features touch modes which allow for expressive control using the touch footswitch in momentary and latching modes. Touch modes include options like Magnetic Dance, a drone of tunable micro-loops, Repeater for CD-style stuttering glitch effects, Disintegration Loop for extending sound-on-sound loops, and more. Of course, Ribbons also includes Kinotone's knack for sneaking a synth into their pedals, giving you a 4-voice MIDI-controlled sine wave synth to add another instrument into your loops.

In such a compact form factor, Ribbons from Kinotone is a piece of kit electronic music pioneers probably would've done anything for - a compact tape studio and lo-fi sound palette you can fit in your pocket, built to inspire no matter your application.
