Joey from Kaona is a compact tool for crafting complex gate sequences, taking inspiration from the expansive Skippy module in an intuitive form factor built for quick creation of unique rhythmic patterns. Joey is simple to use, featuring a single clock input which synchronizes four generative gate outputs. These gate outputs operate according to three different modes – random, fractal, and euclid – with a single clickable encoder control for adjusting parameters within each mode. Random mode generates gates semi-randomly, with control over probability of gates and the frequency of each potential impulse, or speed. Fractal mode applies cellular automation to a selected set of gates, or "fractal root", using algorithmic transformation to create organic patterns that evolve over time. Finally, Euclidean mode equally distributes a given number of gates over the number of steps in a pattern, letting you intuitively use its simple interface to craft unique syncopated and polyrhythmic patterns. In each mode, you can adjust the time between each gate with the Time parameter, and the length of gates with Gate Length. The Pattern parameter is different for each mode, setting probability in Random mode, the fractal root in Fractal mode, and adjusting the Euclidean distribution variables for Euclid mode.
