Future Retro TRAX!

TRAX! is a performance sequencer module originally designed to control Future Retro’s Transient line of modules—however, it is as well-suited for controlling other Eurorack modules, analog devices, and even MIDI hardware. Beneath the small footprint of the module, there is a world of features ready to be explored at any point.

The sequencer features one trigger output, and two CV outputs that can be either tied to the pulse for traditional sequencing techniques or set completely independently for more experimental approaches. TRAX! does not save patterns, but that is a feature and not a downside: its simple interface and various options to rapidly generate new sequences are specifically designed by Future Retro to encourage the performer to discover new phrases each time the synthesizer is turned on. Each CV channel has two A/B 16-step pattern slots for sequences which can be switched between at any point. Additionally, the data in each pattern can be used to derive up to 256 variations. Furthermore, Evolve, Remix, and Phi features can also be used to extensively manipulate the sequences. Traditional techniques of copying, pasting, and overwriting patterns are also implemented for speedy sequence programming.

Several TRAX! modules can be chained together with a flying bus cable for even more control options. An optional MIDI expander module is also available.

Shakmat Four Bricks Rook Sequencer With Future Retro Transient Plus
Shakmat Modular's Four Bricks Rook is a fast to program sequencer for up to four drums with interesting editing options. In this video we used it to sequence Future Retro's Transient Plus which is a powerful drum synthesizer module with built in presets and randomization. The Transient Plus has analog modulation and synthesis algorithms even though it is a digital module.

The other drums used were the Befaco Kickall, WMD Crucible and Tiptop SD 808 snare. We used the Future Retro Trax sequencer to program the Erica Synths Bassline synth module. Effects and mixing are done with Erica Synths modules and the Noise Engineering Kith Ruina is dirtying up the snare drum.
