Fairfield Circuitry Shallow Water

Hotter than ever (literally), Fairfield Circuitry's limited edition version of their hit Shallow Water random chorus and lofi effect pedal features uniquely hand-burned enclosures. Commemorating a whopping 10,000 Shallow Water pedals ever made, this special run of 500 units celebrates a modern classic in boutique pedal design.

Fairifield Circuitry describes Shallow Water as a K-Field Modulator, but thankfully you don't need to be a math wizard to understand what that means for your music. In practice, Shallow Water is a chorus and vibrato pedal based on an analog bucket brigade device (BBD), just like many of the most classic and beloved pedals of this type. But rather than using a cyclical low-frequency oscillator to modulate its delay chip, Shallow Water employs a pseudo-random voltage generator to create meandering and fluctuating changes to the delay. The result imparts a character similar to wow & flutter, which when combined with other aspects of Shallow Water's design can yield a remarkably tape-like sound.

Shallow Water gives you Rate and Depth controls to define the speed and intensity of random movement, with a Damp control that can smooth out any wide jumps into more subtle slopes. Additionally, the inclusion of a lowpass gate (LPG), a hybrid filtering and volume control circuit historically found in Buchla synthesizers, further moves Shallow Water towards lofi territories. The LPG control also corresponds to an internal envelope follower, which opens up the LPG for brighter and louder tones before falling back into darker and quieter sounds.

Shallow Water has found a home with not only guitarists but synthesists, producers, and anyone with a penchant for lofi and nostalgic sounds. With this special edition, you'll not only add some sweet modulation tones to your rig but you'll have a beautiful, one-of-a-kind piece of pedal art.
