King Alex II from Empty Head Effects is a highly flexible distortion pedal, providing everything from warm, intimate drives, to complete signal destruction, and everything in between. The drive is supplied by the silicon transistor, which is then fed into an op-amp, which gives the pedal its particularly versatile character. Despite this versatility, King Alex II features a deceptively simple set of controls—two toggle switches and two knobs. The knobs provide control over gain and volume, with the Gain knob being especially sensitive as its turned clockwise. Change the amount of gain applied to your signal with the corresponding toggle switch, allowing for gain that is either manageable, or completely destructive. The second toggle switch provides control over the op-amp, allowing you to bypass it altogether for a completely different timbre of drive.
