EarthQuaker Devices Bows
The EarthQuaker Devices Bows is a Germanium preamp that implements a NOS OC139 black glass transistor. Make no mistake, the pedal may only have one knob, but affords a plethora of functionality. Users can choose between one of two modes, Full and Treble, each of which can shape tones in several different ways. Full mode adds warmth and low-end to the signal, while the Treble mode is essentially resonant treble booster that can easily yield harmonic distortion from tube amps. At lower settings, each mode bears a characteristic grit, while turning the knob past 12 o’clock emphasizes more subtle aspects of the audio signal. Concerning the Treble section, users can achieve a domineering vowel-esque sound by turning the knob further and further clockwise. Conversely, doing this in Full mode affords a clear, crunchy tone. Even more unruly results can be achieved by incorporating a drive pedal on the signal path before it hits Bows, allowing for the creation of powerful leads and cacophonic ruin.
