Zakal from Colossus Audio is a desktop device for exploring audio feedback through a spring reverberation tank, using a low pass filter and delay to craft unique and captivating tones. In addition to this core functionality as a feedback instrument, Zakal features an external input alongside both main and reverb-only outputs, allowing it to be used as a spring reverb effect. Along the bottom of the enclosure, controls for adjusting the circuit's parameters enable a vast range of tones. An input control adjusts the amount of signal sent to the spring, while a preamplifier adds drive and saturation with selectable hard or soft clipping modes. The Dry and Wet balance can be controlled with a dedicated knob, blending between the input signal and the reverb for use as an effects processor. The feedback knob adjusts the amplitude of the feedback path, with both natural and FX feedback modes for versatile applications.

In the feedback path, a delay effect provides echoing repeats with controls for Lag (time) and Regen (feedback). Sculpt the tone of this signal path with a low pass filter, featuring both Cutoff and Resonant controls, and add a final touch of shaping with a three-band EQ. Beyond these controls, the Spring unit itself is exposed and mounted directly to the panel, allowing for manual interventions on the material feedback path to create percussive or timbral events through direct interaction.
