Collision Devices TARS DLX

TARS DLX from Collision Devices is an expansion of their furiously fuzzy and squelching combination of fuzz and MS-20 inspired filter stages, now with both low and high pass filters and additional feedback effect for sculptable sonic mayhem. If you're familiar with the original TARS, all the same gnarly saturation, resonant filtering, and aggressive post-filter fuzz switch have returned, now with even more tricks up its sleeve to batter tones into new shapes both treacherous and titillating.

The primary fuzz-into-filter signal chain can be engaged with the Launch footswitch. On the left side of the panel, large knobs give you foot-friendly control over fuzz gain and master output level. In the filter section, four faders offer control over cutoff and resonance of the low and high-pass filters, both of which reach into screaming resonance at high settings. Set either filter slope to two or four pole modes, and select between series and parallel routings for the fuzz and filter effect to suit your situation. Adjust filter gain with the provided trimpot, letting you tune TARS DLX to sit perfectly within your specific signal chain.

Aside from the main effect, TARS DLX features a secondary footswitch, Crash, which controls two additional tone-mangling modes. A short press engages the Blast effect, which introduces feedback into the fuzz circuit at a level set by the nearby trimpot. This aggressive and screeching effect is perfect for noisy explosions of sound, but can also be carefully controlled to explore rich and nonlinear timbral changes in your tone. Press Crash for a bit longer with the in series mode, and you'll toggle the add-fuzz mode, introducing a secondary fuzz parallel to your main, filtered fuzz tone. This adds a nice boost for impactful passages, with a subtle phasing effect and added harmonics based on the filter settings. No matter your chosen sound source, TARS DLX from Collision Devices is a vast palette of harmonic sculpting and timbral explosion, evoking new sounds for guitars, basses, and synths alike.
